On my recent visit to Patagonia Chile, I had the opportunity to experience one of the worlds most enchanting and magical locations. The Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve in the Patagonia Rainforest of Southern Chile focuses on sustainable tourism, community and eco research.
There are several different levels of accommodation on the reserve, each one visually unique and all developed with a strong emphasis on sustainable architecture. The properties are so integrated with nature that it’s sometimes difficult to tell the inside from the outside.
The Montaña Mágica Lodge is straight out of a fairytale with small windows dotted over a mountain like structure peering out from the 12 rooms enclosed on the inside.
The Nothofagus Lodge rises up through the canopy like a sprawling tree with 55 rooms and an incredible viewing terrace on the rooftop, the perfect spot to acknowledge that this magical location is real.
The newest property is the Reino Fungi Lodge, shaped like a mushroom of course, in honor of the mushroom kingdom that cultivates from the soil the reserve sits on.
For something a little more adventurous the award winning canopy village, offers cabins up in the trees reachable by raised bridges. The most luxurious of all the properties and perhaps my favorite is the Nawelpi Lodge. This lodge contains 12 spacious cabins completely sourced from the land where you can enjoy a Jacuzzi tub inside with a view or better yet, take a dip outside with the wood burning hot tub and listen to the roaring Fui rivera few feet below.
Check out me doing just that and watch my video tour of Huilo Huilo. It truly is a remarkable place. I give you #Permissiontoindulge.
