Nestled on a private walkway along Chancery Lane and directly opposite the nineteenth century neo-Gothic Holborn Bars building, Pinks Mews is a unique development within an area that has a rich history dating back to the time of the medieval Knights Templar.

“We wanted to create something special in an area of London that has often been overlooked by residential developers”, says Alex Stocker, founder and CEO of Sons & Co. – the developer behind Pinks Mews.

It certainly is different. One of the few new-build mews in London, and probably the only one in the Holborn area, Pinks Mews’ distinctive charm captivates as soon as one steps off Chancery Lane and onto the sleek alley that introduces the pretty set of mews buildings.

Aside from the location, what few buyers realise about the scheme is its rich historical foundations. The buildings upon which Pinks was built started life in the sixteenth century as dyers factories. These factories used the pink pigmentation from the rare and exotic Madder Flower to create the distinctive bright red hue that colour foxhunters tailcoats – coats known as “hunting pinks”, hence the name, Pinks Mews.

Later on, the buildings became Victorian alms houses and then solicitor’s offices: but the distinctive courtyard remained. “Residents at Pinks can quite literally walk down the same path as their Tudor predecessors”, says Alex.

Yet Pinks manages to effortlessly combine this fitting tribute to London’s past with a bounty of modern conveniences. Owing to its position on Chancery Lane – simultaneously on and away from the street – the development is only a stones-throw from the nearest tube line, and a five minute walk from Farringdon Station. The latter is set to become increasingly important as a hub for Crossrail, due to come into service in 2019.

But it’s the quality of the apartments themselves that really make Pinks Mews stand out, says Alex. “We’ve put a lot of thought and resources into how we can best maximise this pocket of space”. Double-height windows are one such device: these towering panes of glass offer residents wonderful views of the courtyard, as well as surprisingly large amounts of natural light. “Visitors are really taken aback by how much light each of the apartments receives”, he says, “they think, because Pinks is tucked down an alley, things will be a little dark and gloomy. In fact, each room is wonderfully bright”.

Nor has Sons & Co. missed a beat when it comes to interior furnishings. Walking into one of the apartments at Pinks Mews is to enter a living area covered with polished luxury oak flooring and decorated with bespoke items of furniture alongside hand-crafted iron joinery. “All apartments also enjoy marble bathrooms with walk-in showers, as well as the latest fitted kitchens”, says Alex, “we’re bringing Knightsbridge standards of interior design to London’s business heartland”.

Indeed, with a 24-hour concierge and gated security the scheme is hardly resting on its historic laurels, but rather striving to create the most convenient and luxurious experience for its residents possible. Alex says, “when you consider how rare mews are these days, let alone ones benefitting from this location and level of interior detail, Pinks Mews is one-of-a-kind”.
