A once in a decade opportunity to purchase a twelve seat grand tier box at the Royal Albert Hall for only £2.5 million.
Harrods Estates is delighted to bring to market a twelve-seat Grand Tier box at the world famous Royal Albert Hall. An extremely rare opportunity, this box places the owner in close proximity to the Royal Box, and provides an enviable view of the world’s most anticipated music concerts and events from the BBC Proms series to the Royal Variety Performance. Additionally, this is the first Grand Tier box to have been made available in almost a decade and is on the market for offers in excess of £2,500,000. Boxes of this nature appreciate over time, making for a sound alternative investment.
In 2017 alone, the Grade I listed Royal Albert Hall will host shows and events including the EE British Academy Film Awards, Titanic Live, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s The Music Of Bond. It is the UK’s busiest and most beloved performance venue with a capacity of up to 5,272 seats, and is host to over 390 shows in the main auditorium each year, all of which the owners of the box will have prime viewing.
The Grand Tier is best known for being occupied by the monarchy, with the Queen’s Box located on this level. The hall’s long history with the Royal family stretches back to it’s opening in 1871 by Queen Victoria. The Hall was originally to be named the Central Hall of Arts and Sciences, but was changed to the Royal Albert Hall of Arts and Sciences in 1867, in memory of her husband consort. Upon the halls opening, Queen Victoria acquired 20 boxes on this tier.
In purchasing the box, the owner will automatically receive a membership to the Corporation of the Halls of Arts and Science. The membership was granted to the individuals who put up the capital to fund the building of the hall in the 1860s, of who then acquired seats in return of governing the Hall for the nation’s benefit. As a member, the owner of the box will be responsible for such duties as electing the Council and the Hall’s President, approving the level of the annual contribution, and ensuring that the purposes and traditions of the Corporation are upheld.
Nicholas Shaw, Sales Manager of Harrods Estates Kensington commented: “This Grand Tier box at the Royal Albert Hall is a real generational purchase, and is the first of its kind that is available to buy for almost a decade. The box is ideal for entertaining, with its twelve seats, and provides enviable views over the main stage and auditorium. We have witnessed these boxes sell previously to the true lovers of the arts and this time should be no different. I anticipate this will sell to a British investor.”
There are 1276 “permanent” seats in the Hall, which are owned by private individuals and corporate entities, located in both boxes and the stalls. The leases of seatholders run for the same period as the lease on the Hall itself, which is for 999 years from 1867.
The box is priced at offers in excess of £2,500,000 and has approximately 849 years remaining on the lease.
