Traditional Moorish property designs are being replaced by contemporary masterpieces across the globe as golf is becoming more popular with the younger generation than ever before. A fine example of this is IS Molas, located in Sardinia, the project comprises 15 villas designed by Starchitect Massimiliano Fuksas.

Designed as ‘inhabited sculptures’, the 4 types of villas designed are real examples of bio-architecture mostly created with natural materials and of local production. Meanwhile, the interiors of the villas is designed by Doriana Fuksas.

Sergio Greco, Sales Manager at Italy Sotheby’s International Realty, comments:

“Golf is a traditional sport but it is evolving and this is being reflected in property trends on golf resorts. Is Molas in Sardinia has sought to create a new luxury golfing lifestyle with an innovative concept of living as one with the surrounding environment. The properties embrace all aspects of the stunning Sardinian landscape, from the mountains, to the blue skies right through to the sea. This concept reflects what modern golfers want, to escape the stresses of work life and really immerse themselves in the game and its setting. We expect this project will be a reference for all new golf initiatives going forward.”

Another example of this is Quinta do Lago, one of the most recognised golf resorts in Europe. The resort has witnessed a dramatic shift in its clientele, eighty percent of buyers in the resort are now families with young children, with the average buyer now in their mid- 50’s as opposed to their mid-70’s, as was the norm 40 years ago.

20 per cent of buyers are now opting to undertake a construction project and increasingly property owners are striving to create iconic buildings that are universally recognised, often buying two or three plots to maximise the space they can build on, as well as creating expansive gardens. Furthermore, the resort is seeing an increased interest in international buyers especially from Belgian, Dutch and Germans as well as a regular influx of British buyers.

Below are some example properties that could work for a piece:

Intended to be ‘inhabited sculptures’, each property has been designed with the surrounding environment in mind, respecting Sardinia’s autochthonous nature and capturing the ancient Nuragic civilization, whilst incorporating contemporary luxury features which cater to modern living.
