Attitude Is What Makes the Difference at London’s Milestone Hotel
As Sir Winston Churchill once said, “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” This statement was aptly included in the small book of quotes by the great man that was left on my bed by the turn down service during my stay at London’s Milestone Hotel. At this luxury boutique hotel located near London’s fabled Kensington Palace, home to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, an attitude of service and gentility make the difference between merely staying in a beautiful building and feeling at home in your own stately London mansion.
The Milestone Hotel is housed in an historic red brick mansion, a property that dates all the way back to 1689 with renovations and re-building throughout the centuries culminating in an ornate early Victorian style façade and an interior décor that borrows heavily from the cozy and comfortable yet opulent furnishings of that era. The feel of a fine, aristocratic town home is reinforced by the staff who greet each guest by name, the dark paneled common rooms appointed with lush draperies and upholstered furniture, the elegant and spacious guest rooms and suites, each of which has its own individual theme and the first class dining and amenities on offer throughout the Milestone.
This hotel maintains a quiet and intimate atmosphere with only 44 guest rooms, a dozen suites and a half dozen larger apartment style accommodations which are reserved for long-term guests. Nowhere is this intimate and cozy feel more apparent than in the Stables Bar, a cocktail bar housed in the building’s original carriage house and decorated in the style of a gentleman’s club with dark paneling, wall murals celebrating horse racing in the 19th Century, a full jockey uniform on display and comfortable seats and sofas upholstered in dark shades of green with tartan accents. This is the perfect spot to end your day.
Equally delightful in contrasting, brightly lit surroundings is The Conservatory. Attached to the Stables Bar and carved out of an old conservatory with abundant glass and a complementary black and white décor, The Conservatory offers a fine breakfast, snacks throughout the day and is the perfect spot the hotel’s famous Afternoon Tea. For fine dining, Cheneston’s Restaurant, the Milestone’s five-star restaurant offers a luxurious but relaxing setting where the dark walnut paneling is balanced with white paint and heavy draperies rendered in natural tones. The menu at Cheneston’s Restaurant features British cuisine at its finest, prepared with pride by a staff that upholds the high standards found throughout the property.
Attitude is everything at the Milestone Hotel and you will appreciate the significant difference it makes to your experience at this fine property.
